Connor's Take: Friday's Show

Unfortunately we recorded a full Football Friday show only for it to be deleted when we tried to upload it to the site. Sorry for the inconvenience. Rather than consider today a lost day I'll post my thoughts that would have been on the show:

Red Sox vs Tigers:
A huge win for the Red Sox. With Scherzer and Verlander coming up in the next two games it was necessary that they win last night. The bats seemed to wake up a bit and Mike Napoli hit a ball that still has not landed. Tigers were unable to come through with the big hit which will need to change if they want to win this series. The Tigers have the advantage with the pitching matchups the next two games (if necessary) they just need to get some big hits.

Hockey:
John Tavares is a stud and the Islanders are looking like the only NY team to make a playoff run this year in the NHL. Meanwhile, the Devils stink and I refuse to spend another minute discussing my favorite team until they get a win. I wish I could say the same with the Giants...

Thursday Night Football:
Seahawks took care of business. The defense made plays against a terrible Cardinals passing attack. The Cardinals offensive line was terrible and Carson Palmer's days as an NFL starter are numbered. By no means should he be a starter in this league anymore. The Cardinals have a very good defense with a lot of talented pieces. Add in a solid group of receivers and this team should be competing for a playoff spot. Too bad they have Carson Palmer. On a side note, Russell Wilson played great and if he plays like that in the postseason with that home field advantage and a very good defense, the Hawks have Super Bowl written all over them.

Sunday Football

Falcons -7 over Buccaneers
After all the injuries, you can argue the Bucs are the more talented team coming into this game. Then you see the Bucs are coached by Greg Schiano and their QB is Mike Glennon. The Falcons always play great at home and despite a depleted offense, Matt Ryan will find the open man. Look at what Tom Brady has done with a bunch of scrubs at WR. By no means is Matt Ryan Tom Brady, but Ryan is a top QB in this league. As long as the Falcons avoid catching MRSA, their will be no losing on Sunday. Falcons win and cover.

Lions -2.5 over Bengals
Very similarly built. The Lions are just better. Matthew Stafford or Andy Dalton? Calvin Johnson or AJ Green? Ndamukong Suh or Geno Atkins? I'd lean Lions in all three but Suh vs Atkins is a toss up. The only facet I'd lean Bengals is in coaching because Marvin Lewis blows Jim Schwartz away. I expect this to be a close game but the Lions will prevail.

Dolphins -8 over Bills
Division games are never a gimme but the Dolphins are healthy coming off a bye and are home against a Bills team led by Thaddeus Lewis. No way does Thaddeus Lewis look decent again this week against a pass rush featuring Cameron Wake. If the Bills want any chance in this game C.J Spiller and Fred Jackson must have big games. Dolphins should cruise to victory.

Jets +3.5 over Patriots
The Jets have their swagger back. The Jets have rebuilt their defense around a couple of promising stars on the line in Muhammad Wilkerson and Sheldon Richardson. Then you add in the Patriots defense is in shambles after the losses of Vince Wilfork and now Jerod Mayo, the Jets should be able to keep this close. I see this as a field goal game. Gronk is back but Talib is out. Tough call. I say Pats win but Jets cover.

Eagles -3 over Cowboys
The Eagles do not have their quarterback of the future on the roster but they do have their quarterback of the immediate future in Nick Foles. Unless Foles turns the ball over at an Eli like rate this is his job. This game should be a shootout and with Dallas missing a lot of key pieces on defense I'll lean Eagles.

Redskins pick'em over Bears
Toss up game. RGIII looked to be regaining his old form last week and I expect him to improve every week. The Bears defensive line is beat up and I expect Alfred Morris to have a huge day. Factor in DeAngelo Hall has Jay Cutler's number and the Bears inability to score 30 on the Giants, I'll go Skins.

Panthers -6 over Rams
A game that only Panthers fans, Rams fans, and Cam Newton owners will watch. Tough game to pick with the spread. If the Panthers run the ball they'll win if not the Rams will. I think they'll run. Panthers win and cover.

Chargers -7.5 over Jaguars
Could be a let down game for the Chargers. Line seems to high and I'd be more comfortable at 6.5 but I'll still pick the Chargers.

49ers -4 over Titans
The stat everybody seems to be throwing around nowadays is that teams have not won a game the week after playing Seattle. I expect that trend to continue. Sorry Titans fans. Kaepernick to Vernon Davis looked good last week but overall Kaepernick did not. Will this be the week he regains his form?

Packers -10 over Browns
A game that if the line 10.5 I'd pick the Browns but at 9.5 I'd pick the Packers. I think this game will push but I'll lean Packers because the Browns still have Brandon Weeden as their quarterback.

Chiefs -6 over Texans
Texans have 7-9 written all over them. Good luck going into Kansas City with Case Keenum as your quarterback. I just hope he escapes the game in one piece. Kansas City should cruise.

Raven +1.5 over Steelers
Toss up game. I think the Steelers win last week was more of a let down week for the Jets and the Steelers fresh off a bye than the Steelers being back on track. Ravens could use a win in a game like this as that division looks like it will come down to the final few weeks. I'll take the Ravens to win.

Broncos -6.5 over Colts
Irsay has ran his mouth all week and now his team must back him up. After a bad loss in San Diego, the Colts look to get back on track but there is one problem, Peyton Manning is back. I expect a motivated Peyton to show Irsay what a Super Bowl winning quarterback does to a team that is playing in the stadium he built. Peyton and the Broncos will win by digits.

10 SF -4
7   KC -6
5   DET -2.5

When Equipment Fails

Today we had about an hour long show lined up for you, it was taped and ready to go up online. That is when technology decided to fail us and our show was somehow lost. For the sake of time we are unable to sit down and redo the show. However, we will both provide posts that in essence will cover what was talked about during the show.

Last night, myself and Connor attended the Oilers-Islanders game. It was a fun game to watch with two young teams going at it. John Tavares once again had me leaving impressed as did the Oilers former 1st overall pick, Taylor Hall, who scored two goals in what seemed to be the blink of an eye. The Islanders won the game 3-2 and continue to assert themselves as the best hockey team in New York.

Due to being at the game, we missed nearly the entire Devils game, the beginning of the baseball game, and the first half of the football game. With the Devils, we did not miss much. They fell behind early and thus far lack the ability to get back into games. I am being patient with this group due to all the new faces but they need to get two points one of these nights. The baseball we caught the last 4 innings of. Based off the recap and the box score, Sanchez was shaky early but battled to keep his team in the game and Lester bent but didn't break. Uehara shut the door with an unprecedented five out save, doing so with ease. One point from me that turned out to be moot was Leyland deciding to walk Ellsbury in the 7th to setup a double play, but playing the infield in allowing him to steal second, gifting the Red Sox an extra man in scoring position. It worked out for the Tigers but still, bad managing out of a great manager. The football I saw two plays, Browner's pick and Lynch's touchdown. That was all I needed to see. Russell Wilson played well and Carson Palmer did not.

Now for my Week 7 picks:
Bucs @ Falcons
Falcons (-7): Atlanta does not lose at home again, especially against a Bucs team that in my opinion has quit on its coach.

Bengals @ Lions
Lions (-2.5): These teams are fraternal twins, give me the twin with the better quarterback playing at home.

Bills @ Dolphins
Bills (+8): Thad will not play as well in his homecoming, with the tape out on Thad and Miami fresh off a bye the 'Phins win but I like the backdoor cover.

Patriots @ Jets
Jets (+3.5): The return of the Gonk! Gonk will be a factor but Rex has these boys ready, believing, and having blue balls. Rex's boys keep it close and if Geno doesn't turn the ball over they win it.

Cowboys @ Eagles
Cowboys (+3): Game will be a shootout and will really heat up the Foles-Vick debate in Philly. However, I'll take the better quarterback in this shootout.

Bears @ Redskins
Redskins (PK): RG3 began to look like his old self last week and that continues this week against a Bears run defense that couldn't stop pregnancy if it were a condom.

Rams @ Panthers
Rams (+6): A game nobody will watch. Panthers inconsistencies keep me from laying the six.

Chargers @ Jaguars
Jaguars (+7.5): Let down game and short week for the Chargers. Jags got a taste of competing last week and look to build on it this week at home. Game is definitely a close one, I think Jags take it.

49ers @ Titans
49ers (-4): Vernon Davis has finally reemerged as another option for Kaepernicus. This defense has a field day against Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Browns @ Packers
Browns (+10): The Browns are good against the run and can contain Lacy. Packers lack weapons with no Cobb or Jones. A double digit spread is too much to lay, give me the Browns to cover but not win.

Texans @ Chiefs
Chiefs (-6): This defense against Case Keenum? This defense against Case Keenum.

Ravens @ Steelers
Ravens (+1.5): Toss up game, give me the better team.

Broncos @ Colts
Broncos (-6.5): Irsay had to run his mouth and Colts are on a short week. Peyton makes them pay.

Tyler's Week 6 Picks

To reiterate what Connor said, we were unable to do the show today and apologize for the inconvenience. We will be back on Monday, Columbus Day, to break down Week 6 in the NFL.

Last night, the Giants dropped to an unthinkable 0-6. The team took baby steps and actually competed. Much like Week 1, turnovers led to their demise. For the second consecutive week Eli was not good. Although you can make the argument that all the turnovers were not his fault, he is the leader of this team and most of the responsibility has to rest on his shoulders. The defense looked stronger in the 2nd half, however the pass rush is still nonexistent. With a little help this weekend maybe they still sit 2 games back but at the moment division is back burner, this team just needs to get a win.

Now onto my Week 6 picks
Cin -7 over Buf
Det -2.5 over Cle
KC -9 over Oak

Connor's Week 6 Picks

Since other obligations presented themselves we were unable to do a show today. Here's my recap of last night's game, picks, and fantasy players to watch:

The Giants covered as I had predicted but this may have been the nail in the coffin for the Giants season. The Giants once again lost the turnover battle and that seemed to be the difference. The Giants defense was improved and Jacobs got the fork out of his back but the reality is that the WR's and TE's other than Cruz cannot catch and are obviously not on the same page as Eli. They have 10 days to prepare for the Vikings but unless the Cowboys and Eagles both lose this week, the hope of turning this season around is over.

CIN -7 over BUF
DET -2.5 over CLE
KC -9 over OAK
MIN -2.5 over CAR
PIT +2.5 over NYJ
TB +1 over PHI
BAL +2.5 over GB
STL +7.5 over HOU
DEN -27 over JAX
SEA -13.5 over TEN
NO +2.5 over NE
ARZ +10.5 over SF
WAS +5.5 over DAL
IND -1.5 over SD

Got 22 last week. Here are my 10,7,5

10 SEA -13.5 (Hawks at home against a backup QB)
7  CIN -7 (Bengals coming off a big win, look to build on it against Thaddeus Lewis?)
5  BAL +2.5 (Feel like this game will be best of the week. Give me the Ravens at home)

It's a show

We are The Nutty Irishmen. Who are we? We are Connor and Tyler Carroll, twin brothers who are pursuing a degree in Sports Management at Farmingdale State College. If our names don't sound familiar perhaps our story will. During our senior year in high school we were the clowns that took advantage of Tebowmania and got our suspension for "Tebowing" to be a national story. Our story was showcased on pretty much every media source you could think of. That was just fun and games though. We like sports, we played 'em, we watch 'em, we read about 'em, hell we actually study them. That is why we are starting up this podcast. Both of us are Yankees, Giants, Knicks, and Devils fans. Are we biased? Of course. However we both have the ability to look past our loyalties and tell it as it is. Our show is going to be something you are going to want to listen to everyday. We will cover it all and dive deep into each subject while at the same time sprinkling in some not so serious stuff because well they are only games after all. Our friends will frequent the show to give different perspectives and provide some laughs. Well, that's enough from us, sit back and enjoy the shows.
